About The Fix Bench
The Fix Bench publishes appliance troubleshooting and home repair guides for readers in the United States. The goal is narrow and practical: help you work out what is actually wrong with an appliance, what it costs to fix, and whether fixing it is worth doing at all.

How guides are researched
Error codes, part numbers and repair costs are checked against manufacturer service documentation and parts retailer listings before an article is published. Where a figure is an estimate — repair costs especially — it is presented as a range, because prices vary by region and change over time.
Articles that have not yet completed that verification step carry a visible notice at the top of the page. Read more in our editorial policy.
What this site is not
These guides are not a substitute for a licensed technician. Appliances carry mains voltage, and some carry gas or pressurised water. If a repair involves a sealed refrigerant system, a gas connection, or you are not confident working safely, hire a professional.
