Refrigerators & Freezers
Cooling faults, error codes, ice and water problems — and why the difference between the fridge and freezer compartment changes the diagnosis.
Most refrigerator complaints are not cooling failures. The single most useful question is which compartment is warm — a fridge that is warm while the freezer is fine is almost never a compressor or refrigerant problem, because one system serves both and a failed system cannot cool half a cabinet. That usually points at airflow or defrost instead, which is a very different repair.
The second thing worth knowing before reading anything else here: on Samsung machines the display codes are frequently better documented by third parties than by Samsung's own US pages, and two of their pages document the same code differently. Where that happens we quote both rather than pick one.
No Ice but the Water Dispenser Works? That Narrows It a Lot
Working water proves the supply, valve and filter are fine, so the fault is inside the ice maker itself — and the first check is a temperature, not a part.
Refrigerator Making a Loud Noise? Most of Them Are Normal
Manufacturers publish which sounds are meant to happen, including a buzz every 15 minutes that means one specific thing. Here is how to spot the ones that matter.
Samsung 21E Error Code: The Freezer Fan, Not the Fridge Fan
21E is the freezer fan. 22E is the fridge fan. Search results mix them constantly, and Samsung's own documented fix for 21E is a defrost rather than a part.
Samsung 5E Error: The Defrost Sensor, and Samsung Says Call Service
5E is a fridge defrost sensor error. Unlike the fan codes, Samsung publishes no owner fix for it — which is worth knowing before you follow one you found elsewhere.
Samsung Fridge Showing OF OF? It Is Demo Mode, Not a Fault
OF OF, O FF or scrolling bars means Cooling Off mode — the showroom setting that disables the compressor. Clearing it works, but the fridge needs a day.
Freezer Frosting Up? First Check Whether It Is Supposed To
On a manual-defrost freezer frost is normal. On a frost-free one it is a fault — and turning the temperature down, which is most people's instinct, makes it worse.
Water Pooling Inside Your Fridge? Find Where It Is First
Water inside the cabinet, water on the floor, and water behind the fridge are three different faults. The first one is almost always a blocked defrost drain.
LG Refrigerator Not Cooling? Check the Display for OFF First
An LG showing OFF is in showroom demo mode with cooling disabled, not broken. And check your warranty before paying for any compressor work.
Refrigerator Compressor Not Running: Read the Clicking First
A click every few minutes with a warm fridge usually means a failed start relay, not a dead compressor — and the longer it clicks, the more likely it becomes one.
Fridge Warm but Freezer Cold? It's an Airflow Problem
On most refrigerators the fridge makes no cold of its own — the freezer does, and a fan delivers it. A cold freezer already rules out the expensive failure.
Water Dispenser Not Working? Work Through It in This Order
Four checks cost nothing, starting with the control lock. After those it is usually the filter or a frozen water tank — and the tank is not in the door.
Samsung Refrigerator 22E Error Code: What It Actually Means
22E is a fridge-compartment fan fault, not a freezer fault — and Samsung documents it two different ways. Here is how to tell which one applies to your model.
