The Fix Bench

Dishwashers

Error codes, drainage failures, leaks, and part-level fixes for the most common dishwasher brands.

Two things decide most of what you read here. The first is whether your machine has a heating element at the bottom of the tub — every Bosch does not, because they dry by condensation instead, which makes the standard "check the heating element" advice useless on those machines and reverses the rule about where plastics go.

The second is that a surprising amount of what gets reported as a dishwasher fault is not one. One to two cups of standing water in the bottom is normal. A number followed by H is a delay countdown, not an error. And a machine that has never drained since the day it was installed is usually reporting a knockout plug that was never removed from the garbage disposal — a cause three manufacturers name independently.
