Samsung Dishwasher LC Code: Even Detergent Can Set It Off
LC means the leak sensor found moisture, not that you definitely have a leak. Samsung lists overfilled detergent as a cause, and the machine runs itself until dry.
LC does not mean you have a leak. It means the sensor found moisture.
Samsung’s own framing:
Moisture is detected where it doesn’t belong, even if a leak isn’t visible or noticeable.
That distinction is the whole article, because Samsung’s own list of causes includes at least two things that are not leaks at all — and one of them is detergent.
The code also appears in more than one form:
A leakage error may take the form of LE, LC, or on models without a digital display, certain combinations of blinking lights.
First, the behaviour that alarms people
If your dishwasher has started running on its own and will not stop, that is not a second fault. Samsung documents it:
The dishwasher will turn itself on and will not turn off until the moisture is gone.
It is running the pump to clear whatever the sensor found. Unsettling to watch, and working as designed.
Samsung’s steps, in Samsung’s order
1. Power it down. “Unplug the dishwasher or turn it off at the circuit breaker.” Everything else happens with the machine dead.
2. Wipe the floor dry first. This is not in Samsung’s numbered list but it follows from their own definition, and it saves you a wasted afternoon: start from a genuinely dry floor so that you can tell a leak from a spill. If water does not reappear on the next cycle, it was never a leak.
3. Inspect the water supply hose connections. Feel along them for moisture. A joint that weeps slowly leaves a white or greenish crust as it dries and re-wets, which is far easier to spot than the water.
4. The garbage disposal cap.
If you’ve recently connected the dishwasher to a garbage disposal, make sure the garbage disposal cap is removed.
This is the same part that causes drainage faults — a disposal ships with its dishwasher inlet sealed, and the plug has to come out before the hose is connected. Whirlpool calls leaving it in a common misdiagnosis; Samsung notes that with it in place, water ends up where it should not be and reaches the leak sensor.
If your machine is new, or a disposal was recently fitted, check this first. Errors in the first few uses after an installation are usually the installation.
5. The detergent. The one nobody expects:
Make sure the detergent dispenser has not been overfilled. Detergent should not be added outside of the dispenser.
Samsung’s reasoning is that detergent moisture can activate the sensor. Detergent holds damp far longer than water does — so a scoop tipped into the door well rather than the dispenser, or a dispenser packed too full, can keep the sensor triggered long after everything else has dried out.
If you have changed detergent, switched from pods to powder, or been generous with it, this is worth a look before you start chasing plumbing.
6. Recently moved?
If you recently moved the dishwasher, some water may have splashed near the sensor underneath. Give it time to dry.
Pulling a dishwasher out for a floor or a cabinet job tips residual water from the sump onto the base. The sensor is doing its job; there is simply nothing wrong.
7. Restore power and run a cycle. With everything dry, see whether the code returns. A code that comes back after a genuinely dry start is a real leak, and that is the point at which this stops being a checklist.
Samsung and Bosch disagree, and it is worth knowing
Both brands detect water in the base. Their instructions to owners are close to opposite.

We are not going to declare one of them right. They are different machines with different sensors and different assumptions about what usually triggers them, and each manufacturer’s guidance governs its own appliance.
What we will say is what follows from both: a code alone is a checklist, and visible water on the floor is not. If you can see water outside the machine, shut off the supply and treat it as a leak whichever badge is on the door — because the cost that matters there is to cabinets and subfloor, and it does not appear on any repair quote.
When it is real
If the code returns after a dry start with the detergent correct, the disposal cap out and the hoses dry, the leak is inside the machine — the door seal, the sump, the tub, or a hose you cannot see without dismantling it. Samsung’s position at that point is that the dishwasher needs service.
We are not publishing a part number. Samsung uses different seals and sump assemblies across model families, and the route to the right one is your model number, from the sticker on the edge of the door, through a parts retailer’s fitment tool.
And do not dry out, disable or bypass the sensor to clear the code. It is the reason the water is still inside the appliance rather than under your floor.

How LC usually resolves
Detergent overfilled or spilled outside the dispenser. Free, and the most overlooked cause on Samsung’s own list.
A recently connected disposal. The cap. Same part that causes drainage faults.
The machine was moved recently. Splashed water. It needs drying time and nothing else.
Humid room, one-off code, never returns. It found moisture, cleared it, and carried on.
Code returns after a dry start. Now it is a leak, and it is a service call — the sensor has done exactly what it exists to do.
